Riverwalk Sunday

It’s really easy to forget that I live in a tourist town. On Sunday, Bacon took Cherry, Coco and I to the Riverwalk. We couldn’t remember the last time we went, but we vowed to go again soon. It was a great day.

Belief System

Things I believe:

Quality time is a myth. The most important discoveries don’t happen on schedule. They happen when I’m doing something else. They happen in line. They happen in traffic. They happen on random endless summer days when the kids are bored, and I can’t for the life of me remember what day it is. Discovery is a debutante getting ready for a dance. She doesn’t listen when you tell her to hurry up.

People will laugh. At the campground last summer I walked to the bathroom early one morning. A lady smiled at me. I thought, nice lady, until I looked in the mirror. I wore my shirt, inside out. The lady wasn’t being nice. I looked ridiculous.

If unexpected bad can happen, then unexpected good can happen, too. After driving hundreds of miles last summer, we were less than ten miles from home when the transmission went out of our car. Why so close to home? I don’t know, but I’m still waiting for the flip side of this paradigm–any day now.

I took the photograph of the koi swimming under a bougainvillea at the Japanese Tea Garden in San Antonio near Brackenridge Park. In China, the fish is a symbol of prosperity.
