NANOWRIMO · Writers Write

One

The next thirty posts will be more personal and less edited than any I’ve ever written. If that bothers you, come back on December 1. Things should be back to normal. I’m beginning a new book today for National Novel Writing Month or NANOWRIMO. I know–an unfortunate acronym. Like I said–no editor.

The header is also unedited. When I write, I work from visual images. I put this card stock collage together last week. You’re seeing a small portion of it. Like A Picture of Dorian Gray, the collage will morph with time. The original painting I worked from is Georgia O’Keeffe’s, Out Back of Marie’s II, painted in 1930. I used several others, too. You’ll see them later. I don’t profess to be an artist, but the strength of the color and the photos that come later spark ideas.

Nothing ever goes as planned. November 1 fell the day after Halloween. (duh) I have children. Yesterday afternoon, I was sewing clouds of neon pink and turquoise tulle. Today, Cherry left for science camp–three days in the Texas Hill Country with her fifth grade class. This is the first time she’s been away for more than a sleepover. And Friday, my friend Shari lost her battle with cancer. The memorial service is today.

There’s never a perfect day to write. Every day is a perfect day to write. Writing is life. Forgive me if I’m a little slow getting started.
