Greed-Day 11

I’m not an economist, but I’ve been to a toddler’s birthday party. A mountain of presents piled in front of a kid, high on cake. I’ve seen that gleam in the most compliant child when he realizes he can do whatever he wants. He’s the birthday boy.

“Get up. It’s my spot.”

“My turn to poke the pinata.”

“I want candy. NOW.”

“She was asking for it. She wouldn’t get off my swing.”

He’s had so many treats; he’s developed amnesia. He’s forgotten how to share. That’s when I know it’s time to go home.

I’ve had enough of birthday boy economics.
