This year, I’m posting a monthly garden journal. I took these pictures this morning. Happy New Year!
We're enjoying the window boxes on our backyard patio. These were planted in mid-December with cyclamen, monkey-faced pansies, and dusty miller. It's wonderful to see them through the window when the sky is gray. The plants are cold hardy, so I don't have to cover them on cold nights.Swiss Chard tastes great in potato soup. These plants were harvested yesterday, so they aren't as full as they'll be in a week. The sprouts in front were December's lettuce seed.My broccoli was planted in September. The bed is raised--created with a layer of alfalfa, a layer of coastal hay, and a layer of compost. I hand water it every few days. These succulents are about to bloom. I cover them when the temperature dips below freezing.
