Thirty

So what did I get out of fifty thousand words in thirty days?

  • I can write anytime, anywhere, with anyone around.
  • Preparation does make a difference. Everything I did ahead of time was useful: the comic throughline, four-part structure, color-coded scene cards, having the collage set up and ready to add to as I wrote gave me a visual starting place, focus music and a playlist with headphones, the steno pad I carried around for a year while I was thinking about this story became swatches of character throughout.
  • Blogging daily–even if only four people are reading–helps. It kept my head in the game.
  • Deadlines create momentum.

I will do this again. I don’t have to wait for November to do it.
