A linear recap of the past week’s thoughts and events.

Sunday: Easter Sunday. Chocolate bunnies were consumed.

Monday: Coco visited the orthodontist. Cherry sang in a choir concert. I drove the car.

Tuesday:  Joan Didion and I have the same opinion.

Wednesday: I met a friend for coffee. Chocolate croissants were consumed.

Thursday: I pinned this truth on Pinterest.

Friday: Cherry swims before school. It’s up to me to pick her up at the pool and get her to first period Biology before the tardy bell. It’s usually not a problem, except for the monsoon that hit San Antonio between 7:40 and 8:15 a.m. Oh, one more thing. Rush hour traffic.

Saturday: I read a book and cleaned two swimming pools. Must sleep.

Sunday: We’re dressed for church. I asked, “Where’s the dog?” Bacon answered, “I let her outside.” Coco opened the door and called. No dog. The gate was open. The schnauzer was gone. We mobilized. Coco, Bacon, and I went out the front door. Cherry went out the gate. “Jazzy. Jazzy. Jazzy.” A woman jogged by, smiling and pointing. “Have you seen my little dog?” She smiled and pointed. I repeated, “Have you seen my dog.” Smiling, pointing, finally, “I don’t speak English.” She jogged off. I yelled, “Jasmine.” From a block away, my barking, gray rat of a terrier came running. After ten minutes of heart in my throat fear, I carried her home.

Monday: Standardized testing hell. Cherry took the English End of Course Exam. Why schedule an EOC on March 29th? The course doesn’t end until June 5. But Coco had it worse. When she finished, she wasn’t allowed to read. She wasn’t allowed to study. She couldn’t leave. Just sit. Don’t move. All day.

Tuesday: This scared me. Do you think they’re real?

Wednesday: Happy New Year! I ate lunch with a friend on April Fools Day. No one pranked us. We were both thankful not to be teaching middle school.

Thursday: Mom Taxi Day. I rushed to deliver one kid from swim practice to school, so I could take the other kid to a doctor’s appointment and back to school. Then I hit the grocery store. First World Problems.

Friday: Good Friday. No school. We all slept in. I didn’t have to drive anywhere.

Saturday: What can I say? I’m a fan.

CoffeewCanineJazzy3Sunday: I look forward to driving Coco to orchestra rehearsal. I get to work on my book at a bakery with great coffee and free WiFi. It’s my new Sunday office.

Monday: Jazzy is still basking in her new-found celebrity. In case you missed it, she’s the pooch on Coffee With a Canine.

Tuesday: Come on, Princeton Review. You’re writing test questions for teens. Did you expect them not to notice?

Wednesday: I finally got around to watching, This is Where I Leave You. I liked the movie, especially Jane Fonda as Mom, but not as much as I loved the book.  It must have been hard for Jonathan Tropper to compress all those characters into two hours of dialogue.

Thursday: We have tired swimmers at our house. Middle-schooler Coco swam the high school set for the first time, and Cherry swam a timed 2000 meters. For us metrically illiterate Americans, that’s about a mile and a quarter at top speed.

Friday: This is great advice. I wonder how long it took Steinbeck to write the chapter in Grapes of Wrath where the terrapin crosses the road? It took me forever to read it.

Saturday: I watched Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson on Saturday Night Live. I didn’t realize he was so funny!

Jazzat4Sunday: The Ides of March and Jasmine the Wonder Dog’s Birthday. It’s hard to believe our puppy is four.

Monday: I went to my neighborhood board meeting. For three hours, we discussed how to extract blood from a turnip. There’s never enough money to do everything that needs to be done.

Tuesday: I never worry about what to wear on St. Patrick’s Day. I have green eyes.

Wednesday: Another board meeting. Another plan involving turnips and bodily fluid.

Thursday: If you’re over 40, you need to watch this.

IMG_2430Friday: Bacon and I listened to Coco’s school orchestra play in a competition. Her group played beautifully. We bought flowers for our virtuoso.

Saturday: More rain. I drove Cherry to swim practice. The girls went to see Cinderella, while I found a lonely corner in the library to work on my book.
